Brett Harrison of Maidstone can savor a hard-earned victory in the 2010 Northwest Amateur Golf Championship, which took place over the weekend at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

Harrison shot an opening day 74 and a final-round 72 to score 146, one shot ahead of Dwayne Johnston of North Battleford and Ashley Zeigelman of Saskatoon, who finished with 147.

Johnston almost was able to pull out a win, carding a 69 low round of the day on Sunday after a 78 on Saturday. Zeigelman's two-day total was 75 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday.

Three players finished with tournament scores of 148, two shots off the pace. Dave Curniski finished with day totals of 76 and 72. Tim Acaster finished at 77 and 71, and Nevin Gloe at 73 and 75, respectively.

Those six players took home prizes in the championship flight. As winner of the tournament Harrison went home not only with the trophy but with a new set of golf clubs.

There were prizes awarded in five other flight categories with the winners in each flight all receiving a new set of clubs. Those winners were Kerry Kowalenko at 154, Mike Nicholson at 163, Brad Verreau at 171, Lee Ostberg at 176 and Joe Kramm at 186.

In total, 76 players were in action braving all kinds of changing weather conditions at the golf club, but the skies were able to clear up just in time for the deciding moments of the tournament on Sunday afternoon.
