The days are getting shorter, the weather is getting cooler and farmers are spending more time out in their fields.
It is time for harvest for the farmers of Humboldt and area.
"Harvest is just starting," said Erin McLeod, an agrologist out of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture office in Watrous last week.
She explained the outlook for farmers this fall is good, provided the weather cooperates.
"Most insects have passed and there are no diseases," McLeod stated. "Hopefully we don't get a bunch of rain."
The two crops most farmers are beginning to harvest are winter wheat and canola, she indicated.
"Winter wheat is being combined and canola is being swathed," McLeod noted.
She has not heard much about other crops yet, but expects harvest will begin soon for others.
According to the Saskatchewan crop report, four per cent of harvest has been completed.
