Josh McDougall scored a late power play goal to complete a 4-3 comeback for the Nipawin Hawks over the Kindersley Klippers in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Kindersley.

The Dec. 13 contest saw the Hawks dig themselves an early hole as the Klippers scored just 2:49 into the first period, and added another at 18:30 to send the game into the first intermission with the Hawks trailing 2-0.

After a poor first period, the Hawks responded in the second as Brandan Arnold and Grant Baetsen both found the back of the net, sending the game into the third period tied at two.

The Hawks wasted little time grabbing their first lead of the game in the third as Christian Bosa scored his second of the season at 1:55, giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead.

Unfortunately for the black and gold, they could not bring the game home, as the Klippers tied the game at the 9:05 mark, setting up McDougall’s heroics.

McDougall’s game-winning goal came at 19:15 of the third period, on the power play, giving the Hawks a 4-3 win, extending their point streak to 13 games in the process.

Special teams were solid for the Hawks as they finished the evening 2-for-8 with the man advantage, while finishing a perfect 10-for-10 on the penalty kill.

With Declan Hobbs still in Spokane as an emergency call up with the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs, Jake Anthony made his seventh straight start in the Hawks goal, turning aside 22 of the 25 shots he faced for his 12th win of the season.

The Hawks will look to push their season high points streak to 14 games, when they visit the Humboldt Broncos in the first half of a home-and-home series on Dec. 15.
