The Nipawin Hawks survived a late Humboldt Broncos comeback bid to knock off the Broncos 4-3 at home.
The Feb. 16 contest saw the Hawks extend their regulation points streak to 30 straight games, but not before watching a 4-0 lead turn into a late 4-3 advantage.
The game got off to an excellent start for the Hawks as Jordan Simoneau scored his first of two on the night, and Jake Tremblay added another on a power play to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead after the first period.
The second period followed a similar script to the first as Simoneau scored his second of the night and Harasymuk added his 15th of the year, on the power play, giving the Hawks a commanding 4-0 lead with just 23:59 left in the contest.
Jaxon Josephgot the Broncos on the board before the end of the period, netting his 28th goal of the season with 55 seconds to play, sending the game into the second intermission with the Hawks in front 4-1.
That late goal seemed to turn the momentum as the Hawks ran into some penalty trouble in the third, giving up five power plays and were outshot 14-4 as a result.
With the Hawks on their heels the Broncos made them pay as Bryce Fiske and Conner Lukan scored 1:55 apart to cut the Hawks’ lead to 4-3.
Clinging to a one-goal lead, the black and gold locked the game down for the final 1:05, not allowing the Broncos much in the way of offense, as they snuck away with the 4-3 win.
Declan Hobbspicked up the win in the Hawks goal, turning aside 34 of the 37 shots he faced for his 19th win of the season as the Hawks were outshot 37-32.
