High risk offender seen in Rosetown

Rosetown RCMP say they received the report of a possible sighting of high risk sex offender Michael Sean Stanley Thursday afternoon.

Rosetown RCMP say they received the report of a possible sighting of high risk sex offender Michael Sean Stanley Thursday afternoon.

Rosetown RCMP say the Walter Aseltine Elementary School initiated a "hold and secure" mode based on reports from earlier in the day in Kindersley. All students were being kept inside.

Parents were advised to pick up their children from school at the end of the day. Staff at the local schools were asked to send children home with their own parents and not have them go home with another child's parent.

Rosetown RCMP continue to monitor the situation and plan to keep the public aware of any developments.

The latest report follows reports from earlier Thursday from Kindersley RCMP who made it known there were two unconfirmed sightings of Michael Stanley in the area.

Reports were that he may have been seen on foot in that area sometime before 1 pm Thursday.

Stanley, who is 48 years old, had left Edmonton and had cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet in Lloydminster on Oct. 1. The bracelet was later found on the roof of a local business.

He is described as Metis, 5 foot 9 inches, 190 lbs, black hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a purple 1996 Chevrolet Trail Blazer with license plate BHD1954. Stanley is wanted for breach of conditions.

RCMP are asking that if he is spotted that he is not to be approached and to call 911 with your information.
