This evening, November 8, 2020, around 8:15 p.m., a Moose Jaw RCMP officer was assisting a westbound semi involved in a collision with a guardrail, on Highway 1 near the Belle Plaine overpass, when their unoccupied police car was hit by a second westbound semi.
Saskatchewan RCMP police officers and Saskatchewan Highway employees are currently on scene of the two collisions directing traffic.
Two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of Highway 1 near the Belle Plaine overpass have been closed. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane. Westbound traffic is being rerouted through Range Road 642 North and Township 170 West to reconnect with Highway 1 after the overpass.
Moose Jaw RCMP is asking motorists to be extremely cautious when approaching the area. Please slow down and obey directions given by officers. If possible, avoid the area.
The causes of the two collisions are being investigated. A traffic analyst is on their way. No one at the site of the two collisions suffered injuries.
Weather in the Province is creating dangerous road conditions, do not travel unless necessary.
