Despite sinkholes forming at Highway 5 and 5th Street, the City is informing the public that there is nothing suspicious or failing in the road.

"We did camering and everything seems to be fine, we're just going to fill the sink holes with some sediment from underground," said Peter Bergquist, director of planning and engineering for the City of Humboldt. "They've been patching as they've been appearing on the top with cold mix asphalt."

According to Bergquist, since much of what goes on with roads is in the sewers, the city inspects general health by using cameras, known as "camering." The robotic cameras check for cracks, sediments, or whatever else might cause issues. It can also be used for collapses, if there's debris stuck in the mains, or if someone gets stuck down there.

"We really wanted to make sure before the pavers come to town and start paving that area," said Bergquist. "Nothing was collapsing and there were no issues around the manhole. That was a good thing because if we did have issues, we'd have to dig it all up."
