At least one councillor at Monday's meeting of North Battleford council made clear he wanted to see live streaming of the meetings.

Councillor Trent Houk noted streaming would be a viable option for those who don't subscribe to cable.

Currently, Access Communications televises North Battleford council meetings for their subscribers. Videos from past council meetings are also up at the City's website, although new videos have not been uploaded for a few months.

Several cities throughout North America live stream council meetings, most often on their city websites. In some cities, such as Toronto, where the future of Mayor Rob Ford was being debated recently, the live streaming is hosted on the site of the cable provider responsible for producing the TV coverage.

Houk said there was considerable interest expressed in having the North Battleford meetings streamed.

"It's a form of media in this day and age and I think we should be out there taking part in it," said Houk.

Mayor Ian Hamilton pledged to get back to Houk on the issue. City Manager Jim Toye said a full report on the issue would come back to the next council meeting.
