It looks as if there will be some more information coming in the RCMP detachment reports in the near future.
At Monday's council meeting, Councillor Trent Houk called for reinstatement of the "activities of interest" section of the monthly report presented to council by Battlefords RCMP Detachment.
That section had been included in monthly reports by the detachment in the past, but was taken out of the reports in early 2012 in response to criticism voiced at council.
That criticism came from one councillor, Ron Crush, who objected to some of the graphic descriptions in the report. He said at the time the reports were of little use and added to negativity in the community.
The "activities of interest" section had typically provided particulars on a few high-profile cases responded to by members during the month, as well as particulars on whether suspects were arrested or charged. Names of suspects or victims, however, were never mentioned as part of the reports.
Monday, Houk said he had been contacted by many people on the issue.
"I really did like it, I appreciated it," said Houk of the section, saying it showed "trends" or "weird things" that people could keep an eye out for. "I want to see that back," he said.
Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt, acting detachment commander with Battlefords RCMP, indicated he had no objection to including occurrences of interest in future reports to council.
"I think it would be easy enough for us to put a list of three or four items together and to share with council just some of the things that have taken place in the city over the last month," said Woolfitt.
