FLIN FLON — Items left over from the closure of 777 mine and other Flin Flon-area Hudbay operations will soon be hitting the auction block.

Hudbay and a contracted auction firm will conduct a sale of surplus equipment in September, with millions of dollars’ worth of mining items on the block.

The company tapped Vaughan, Ont.-based TCL Asset Group to sell off items and equipment from its Flin Flon-area operations earlier this year - TCL was entrusted to sell items through both private sale and through auctions. TCL and Hudbay will host an online auction to sell items from 777, the Flin Flon casting plant and other areas of operation by webcast Sept. 24-25.

Entry to the auction will be done through appointment only.

Items up for sale from Hudbay’s Flin Flon operations range from fans, compressors and wiring implements up to vehicles like trucks, SUVs, minivans, snow machines and flat-deck trucks, haul trucks, ore trucks, loaders and scooptrams.

Several longhole and jumbo drilling rigs are up for sale. The sale lot includes no fewer than seven hoists - three auxiliary hoists, two production hoists and two service hoists - and crushers, cranes, feeders, screens, conveyors, pumps, dust collectors, buckets, spare parts and air handling equipment.

Several items from Flin Flon Hudbay operations either have been or will be moved to Snow Lake-area operations - remaining items will be sold off. TCL had originally planned to hold an auction sale in August.

The auction company has held sales similar to Hudbay’s in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Central and South America in several different industries, including construction, food and beverages, plastics, chemicals, phamaceuticals and real estate. The company concluded a similar sale for diamond mining giant De Beers in Ontario earlier this month.

“Assets available for sale include underground mining rolling stock and equipment, general mine site equipment, structure metals from the zinc plant, powerhouse and oxygen facilities and related machinery and equipment including new inventory, spare parts, consumables and related assets,” read statements released by both TCL and Hudbay back in March.

A full list of items being placed for sale can be found on TCL’s website.
