The Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service Foundation (Stars) Ryde the Hangar event is fast approaching with teams taking to the Stars Air Ambulance helicopter hangar on Oct. 13 to raising money for the organization.
So far, seven Humboldt based teams made up of 26 people will be making an appearance at the event with minimum fundraising goals set at $2,000 a team.
“Given what happened in April, we all know now more than ever how important Stars is to a rural community. My goal is to have Humboldt represented at this event,” says Adrianna Wormworth, spin instructor at Anytime Fitness and one half a Team Crazy Spin-Stars with Christine Cardenas.
Provincial Stars funding is split 50/50 between the Saskatchewan government and fundraiser dollars.
Between Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba, Stars answers 32,211 emergency requests, on average 88 a day.
Of those calls, medical assistance makes up 55 per cent with the remaining 45 made up of vehicle incidents, trauma, recreational, agricultural, and industrial calls for help.
