Humboldt performing 14th Street water main replacement

EAST CENTRAL — Humboldt council awarded a tender for the water main replacement of 14th Street, from 6th Avenue to the alley north of 8th Avenue, for approximately $716,000.

The replacement also includes base replacement. Concrete and asphalt replacement is planned to take place in 2023.

According to a report to council from administration, the decision was made to fully remove the east curb that the water main is near to properly open the excavation. This will result in an additional $40,000 in 2023 however the east side will be a whole new curb instead of spot replacements at each property.

The project received four bids, which was awarded to the lowest Brockman Enterprises Ltd. for $675,479.32 plus taxes, equaling $716,008. Brockman Enterprises Ltd. has been completing the city’s water main replacement projects for the last three years.

The 2022 budget anticipated the project cost at $866,300 for the water main replacement, roadwork, geotextile, cloth and applicable services.

Administration noted geotextile costs as well as unforeseen circumstances will be funded by this difference.

Affected homeowners and businesses are expected to be notified by the city of the decision and plans for the replacement project.
