HUMBOLDT — A return to the classics, Humboldt’s Summer Sizzler will be held this June

Andrea Tonn, Humboldt’s program co-ordinator, said it’s going to have a similar flavour as to what it’s had in the past, with new activities as well.

“It’s just a great way to start off the summer after living in a tough COVID environment for the last year,” Tonn said. “This event will bring back a sense of normality, and it’s just a fun affordable family event that everybody can participate in in some manner.”

Confirmed Summer Sizzler events that will take place from June 16 to 19 include the midway, the Summer Sizzler parade, Canadian Alliance of Amateur Strength Athletes Strongperson Competition, Humboldt Hammerheads swim meet, Sizzler Comic Con, food trucks, barbeques and breakfasts.

This year's Sizzler Comic Con will be on Saturday, June 18 from noon until 6 p.m. in the Uniplex Curling Rink.

According to organiser Jeff Burton, like previous years, “Saskatchewan’s best one day comic con” will feature a wide variety of Saskatchewan based comic creators and artists as well as crafters and vendors. “There is bound to be something for every geek minded person who wants to attend!”

Similar to previous years, the midway will be held in the Uniplex grounds. The parade route is not determined yet, but Tonn said it will likely follow something similar to what it has been in the past on Saturday, June 18 at 9:30 a.m. Those wanting to signup can do so by emailing Tonn at recprograms@humboldt.ca or by calling 306-682-2597 extension 204.

Tonn said the beginning of the event serves as a good start to the summer for non-profits and other fundraising organizations with the pancake breakfasts and barbeques.

“It’s a good way for the community to show support to a lot of the local groups doing their fundraisers. It’s a nice event where it ties a bunch of the groups together and has the community supporting it.”

Non-confirmed events that are currently being discussed include a beach volleyball tournament, additional Saturday entertainment and a motorcycle stunt performance show.

“We’re also in contact with the Fire Department who's going to do something for us in this particular Sizzler.”
