Battleford Mayor Chris Odishaw has some good news and bad news for commuters passing by his community on Highway 4.
The good news is that the twinning project, at the moment, is on budget and on schedule. The bad news, for your vehicle's suspension, is that the pavement will be the last completed portion of the construction project.
After town council met Tuesday, Odishaw addressed questions from the media about the progress of the twinning project. The road has seen a great deal of work done in recent weeks, with lights installed and the median prepared for paving, but little work has been done on enormous potholes on the southbound road.
Odishaw explained the town was "in the thick of construction and reconstruction" and went on to describe the work that is being done right now - installation of lighting for the highway, removal of old asphalt, creation of turn lanes and continuing development of Gasoline Alley.
Still to come are traffic lights and turn signals at 29th and 22nd Streets, paving of the medians and, finally, asphalt. Odishaw estimated the town would have "no trouble" meeting the original expectations for construction.
