The Battlefords RCMP are reporting an increase in fraud related occurrences in the Battlefords and surrounding communities in recent weeks.
In a community advisory, Sgt. Amber Clark reminds the public that, "if it seems too good to be true then likely it is.”
Police advise anyone receiving an unexpected cheque in the mail with a request to deposit it and send the full or partial amount to the sender by Western Union or Moneygram, to be suspicious.
“Always ensure the validity of funds received prior to making a deposit and withdrawing money,” Clark advises.
When in doubt contact a bank, financial institution. the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 (www.antifraudcentre.ca) or a local RCMP Detachment.
