An inmate of the Saskatchewan Provincial Correctional Centre has escaped lawful custody while being treated at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

An inmate of the Saskatchewan Provincial Correctional Centre has escaped lawful custody while being treated at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

According to corrections staff, Stephen Eric Best, age 29, used a razor blade to escape one of the corrections workers accompanying him on the medical transfer, then fled. The corrections worker was not physically injured. The Saskatoon Police Service is investigating.

Best's charges include robbery, causing bodily harm, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a firearm contrary to order.

Best is 5 feet 8 inches (173 centimetres)?tall, weigh 170 lbs (77 kgs), has a medium?build, blue eyes, blonde hair and a light complexion. He has a dragon head tattooed on his left shoulder, Steven on his left arm?and Best on his right arm. Also on his right arm is '306.'

The public is cautioned to not approach the escapee if spotted. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Saskatoon Police Service, a local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) to leave information.
