They are raising money for a cure.
The seventh annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) walk was held in Humboldt on June 10.
Although the walk was scheduled to be at the A & W parking lot, due to the weather it was moved to the Humboldt Uniplex.
"We are very pleased with the turnout," said Jackie Flavel, organizer of the event. "Because of the weather, we had to change the venue, but I think most people found us."
Around 100 people participated in the walk, bringing in around $3,900 for JDRF.
The event raises money to find a cure for Type One Diabetes, explained Flavel.
This year, the ambassador of the walk was Josh Doepker.
"It is exciting for him," said his mother, Shawna Doepker.
Shawna feels the walk is a very important fundraiser for JDRF.
"The awareness is important - not everyone knows what they have to go through," said Shawna.
Shawna explained her son has to check his blood sugars many times a day and has to administer insulin at least twice a day.
"We are lucky that he is knowledgeable and does it himself - we just double check," said Shawna.
Even though they are adjusting, Shawna explained it has been a roller coaster and a huge learning curve.
She knows how much JDRF has done for children with the disease after talking with other parents.
"The quality of life has really improved over the years," said Shawna. "The research is helping - hopefully we will see more breakthroughs."
She thanks everyone for their continued support.
The Doepkers are not the only people thankful for such a large crowd coming out to the walk.
"On behalf of the Junior Diabetes Association, thank you to Jackie and her committee for planning the walk," said Randy Durovick of the JDRF. "Without volunteers like her, these walks wouldn't take place."
