It was a fun way to raise money for a charitable organization.
Canadian Tire Humboldt hosted Jumpstart Day on May 26 in the store's parking lot. The event was to raise money for Canadian Tire Jumpstart, a charitable organization that helps financially challenged families to pay for their children's sports and activities.
The Humboldt Store had a day full of events from specials on items in the store to a dunk tank outside.
The day was a huge success, said Canadian Tire Humboldt owner Greg Velanoff.
"We raised $6,268," said Velanoff. "That doesn't include totals throughout the month. This was just raised in town that day."
They were not only raising money that day, they also were fundraising throughout the month for Jumpstart, making a month-long campaign.
He said with the amount they raised, they will be close to being the top store in Canada for this event.
"The dunk tank was a huge part of it," said Velanoff.
The dunk tank gave people the opportunity to try to dunk community members like Mayor Malcolm Eaton, firefighters Sean Moore and Jared MacInnis, RCMP officers Trevor Sowers and Trevor Scott and many others.
What also helped the fundraiser was a competition between all the elementary school classrooms. The students collected Canadian Tire money and ended up donating nearly $1,000.
"The winning class was the Grade 6 class of St. Augustine, who won a pizza party from Family Pizza," said Velanoff.
Fundraising for Jumpstart continues until the end of the month.
