South 20 Dodge in Humboldt has a new ornament for their office with Canadian Nascar driver DJ Kennington’s Bristol, Tennessee race hood coming to town.
What is so special about the Nascar hood?
After talking with the car owner, Gaunt Brothers Racing, the hood of his car sported the Humboldt Broncos logo and #PrayersForHumboldt for the Tennessee race, on April 15.
Kennington was proud and honoured to deliver the hood to the Humboldt Broncos on July 23.
Following the race, Kennington and Gaunt Brothers put the hood up for auction with all the proceeds coming back to the Broncos.
Castol Wakefield purchased the hood for $15,000 that was also delivered to the Broncos at their Humboldt pit stop.
To the Broncos organization, it is about more than just the hood, says Vice-President of the Broncos Randy MacLean; it is about everyone, from no matter the distance, coming together.
“People have come forward and just wanted to become part of it and give back.”
What has happened has touched beyond Humboldt, Sask., says MacLean, and people want to help and contribute, something that is distinctly Canadian.
“As Canadians, we want to do something for our neighbour; we want to make sure our neighbour’s doing well.”
The April 6 Humboldt Broncos crash hit Kennington, hard being a former junior hockey player himself.
“I just felt like there was something I could do different to try and help the healing process or try and help them move on.”
The St. Thomas, Ont. native was a week away from the Bristol run of the Monster Energy Nascar Cup Series when the crach occured and he wanted to do something to show support for the Humboldt Broncos community, including the family and friends of those in the crash.
As of July 24, the Broncos logo was scheduled to make another speedway appearance at the Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon on July 25 for the Nascar Pinty’s Series.
Driver Jason White will drive one of Kennington’s vehicles in the race with the Broncos logo on the hood.
White also wanted to honour the Broncos with the logo.
