Where in Humboldt can you see Elsa, Anna, Wolverine, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man all in one place? For a brief time, it was at the Humboldt Legion Hall on April 19.

Sasha Janzen of Sasha Janzen Event Planning and Entertainment has done four children’s expos across the province, as well as other types of events, such as ladies’ nights.

“They’ve been going really well and it seems like everyone is excited to come to them,” Janzen said.

The expo was packed with children and their parents. Attendees could shop any of the 40 vendors (from dresses to cupcakes to specialty foods), get their photos taken with superheroes or Elsa and Anna, get a balloon animal, play in a bouncy castle, or get their faces painted.

Janzen said that organizing an event like this is mostly a matter of meeting people along the way. She got in touch with the Humboldt Justice League, who came dressed as superheroes, and from there the event snowballed. The Frozen princesses came from Nipawin, while other entertainers came from Melfort.

“Today has been amazing. I’m really, really happy with it … I’m really happy with the turnout today,” she said.

Four hundred people RSVP’d to the event on Facebook, which is what Janzen used to estimate how much food she’d need, but more came than she expected and she ran out of tickets.

“I’m from a small town and we never have anything for kids or families ever happening in Porcupine Plain, and I was trying to bring it to small towns, small cities … places that don’t get to see many family things,” she said. “It’s been really nice. I’m just trying to bring a twist to it with the princesses and stuff; bring the city to the small towns.”
