The case against the man who led police on a 90-minute chase in the Northwest region will see his case return to North Battleford Provincial Court Sept. 18.

Kristopher Walter Kowalyk, 31, of Calgary, remains in remand in Saskatoon and appeared by video conference in his latest appearance.

Counsel adjourned by consent, and they indicated to Judge Lorna Dyck they were continuing to discuss a possible resolution. Defence lawyer Andrew Lyster of Legal Aid told the judge there were "a fair number of loose ends that are still loose."

One reason for the latest adjournment was the filing of a new information against Kowalyk. He had previously been charged under 354 1(a) of the Criminal Code with possession of property obtained by crime, but that has been amended to 355(a) of the Code.

Under section 355(a), everyone who commits an offence under s.354 "is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, where the subject-matter of the offence is a testamentary instrument or the value of the subject - matter of the offence exceeds five thousand dollars."

Kowalyk faces several counts under that section and also still faces numerous other charges including assaulting a police officer, break and enter, flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of break and enter instruments, possession of a controlled substance and mischief.

The case against Kowalyk stems from a July 30 police chase through the Northwest region that spanned highways 21, 771 and 31 and included grid roads, fields and rural sections. The chase came on the heels of reports of break and enters and multiple thefts from vehicles in the Unity area to Unity RCMP.

The Sept. 18 court date is scheduled for election and plea. Until then Kowalyk remains in remand.
