AIR RONGE — Saskatchewan RCMP has now cancelled the dangerous persons with firearms alert for La Ronge/Air Ronge issued earlier.
RCMP said at 5:40 p.m. that multiple individuals have been taken into custody. No injuries have been reported.
The individual whose photo was released in conjunction with the emergency alert has not yet been located. His identity has not been confirmed and police continue to look for him. RCMP say the public should remain vigilant as the suspect is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
RCMP are describing the suspect as an adult male with short dark hair with sides shaved, wearing dark pants and a dark shirt with gold patterns down the sleeves, and wearing dark runners. He was last seen on foot in the area of Far Reserve Road in Air Ronge. There has been a possible sighting going north on Highway 2.
If anyone sees an individual matching the description of the suspect, they are asked to contact their local police service or RCMP immediately. In an emergency, the public should call 911. Police remain on scene and are saying the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the Air Ronge/La Ronge area.
The public safety alert was issued at 12:20 p.m. Sunday. Preliminary information indicated two adult males with handguns were involved and that shots had been fired at police.
Saskatchewan RCMP asked people in the area around House 136 Far Reserve Road in Air Ronge to seek immediate shelter or shelter in place and close and lock doors and windows. They also asked the public not to disclose police locations on social media and to not operate any drones in the area.
