TISDALE — For the Town of Tisdale, 2020 has meant cancelled events and facility closures which has been a disappointment, said Mayor Al Jellicoe.
While these are events residents and visitors look forward to every year, hopefully, they will be back for 2021, he said.
This has meant lost revenue for the town, he said, but it also means a decrease in some of the town’s expenses. Help from the provincial and federal governments has also helped the town deal with the new reality of COVID. This year started out with a one per cent tax increase and Jellicoe said he is open to that level increase or even lower for 2021.
Looking into 2021, there are some paving and waterline replacements that need to be done which will mean fewer waterline breaks in the future.
While the town has delayed a few projects they were expecting to complete for 2020, Jellicoe does not expect a big deficit as they wrap up the 2020 fiscal year.
Grant money has allowed the town to work on a lagoon and upgrades to the landfill. With these projects completed, Jellicoe said they have some room for growth in the town.
