Schmidt scored the game-winning goal on Feb. 16 with just one second to play, helping the Mustangs come back from a 2-1 third period deficit.

The game got off to a steady start for the Mustangs asJake Misskey put the home side on the board with his third goal of the season.

The Mustangs held onto the lead until the 8:21 mark of the second period when Donavan Houle-Villeneuve beat Mustangs netminder Hunter Arps to pull the Bombers into a 1-1 tie with the Mustangs.

The game remained tied until early in the third when Doug Johnson scored to put the Bombers in front 2-1.

Needing a response, the Mustangs got it immediately as Kalem Zary scored his ninth of the year, just 24 seconds later to tie the score at two, setting up Schmidt’s heroics.

Arps picked up the win in the Mustangs cage, his 13th of the year, turning aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced as the Mustangs outshot the Bombers 37-27.
