Literacy camps back in July and August

The Light of Christ Catholic School Division and Living Sky School Division have partnered again this year to offer literacy camps for students in Grades 1 through 6.

The Light of Christ Catholic School Division and Living Sky School Division have partnered again this year to offer literacy camps for students in Grades 1 through 6.

The provincial government gave five school divisions funding for literacy camps, covering the cost of the registration and the books given daily to campers. The camps have also expanded, and will be able to accommodate 200 campers this year.

Designed for students who might lack reading or camping opportunities, campers will be provided with one book to keep per day. The camps will also feature a wide range of activities and games to keep children interested, and campers will be given free snacks.

All of this will be done in a three-hour period, with the camp for Grades 1 to 3 starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 11 a.m. and the camps for Grades 4 to 6 starting at 1 p.m. and going to 4.

The first camps will take place July 10 to 27 at Holy Family School and McKitrick Community School. The second camp will take place from July 31 to Aug. 17 at St. Mary Community School and Battleford Central School. Though the registration deadline has passed, both camps still have spots available. Parents interested in registering their children need only show up on the first day.

All of the camps are free. For more information, contact the Light of Christ Catholic School Division board office at 445-6158.
