Little Pine man appears in court on weapons-related charges

Cut Knife RCMP raided a home on Little Pine First Nation as part of an ongoing investigation

NORTH BATTLEFORD – A 54-year-old man made his first appearance in court Tuesday on weapons-related charges.

John Sokwaypnace was arrested after Cut Knife RCMP say they raided a home on Little Pine First Nation on April 17 as part of an ongoing investigation but didn't specify which investigation or provide more details about the investigation. At the home police seized an illegally modified firearm.

Sokwaypnace was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition, possession of a weapon with a tampered serial number, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm when unauthorized, and unsafe storage of a firearm.

A male youth was also arrested and charged with multiple firearms offences. He can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Sokwaypnace is scheduled to appear again in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 3 to elect how he wants to be tried. The charges against him haven't been proven in court.
