Battleford town council was able to move ahead with a bylaw to do an asphalt upgrade on 18th Street from Central Avenue to 1st Street, but the plan to do another on 38th has been dropped, at least for this year.
Monday, councillors reviewed a report regarding a petition against the local improvements to be done on 38th Street from 4th Avenue West to 40 metres west of Janet Drive.
Of the seven properties involved, owners of six signed the petition against the local improvements.
Since the petition was valid, council will not be able to look at that particular local improvement for another year. However, Mayor Derek Mahon noted, the success of the petition will free up some money for other projects this year.
Local improvements are projects that are paid partly by the municipality and partly by the property owners affected.
