Long serving CFO to retire in March

Living Sky School Division's chief financial officer, Ray Kopera, will be retiring at the end of March.

"It's time," he says,

Kopera, who has been with Living Sky since the amalgamation of divisions that created it, and with the division that existed before that. He has been in the Battlefords since 1991.

Kopera, originally from Prince Albert, worked for the school division at Melfort before coming to the Battlefords, and in public practice as an accountant in Saskatoon before that.

He and his wife Candace, who works as an educational assistant, have no plans to leave the Battlefords. Their children and grandchildren are here, and it's home, he says.

"We enjoy the Battlefords."

He is looking forward to enjoying some hobbies, to relaxing and vacationing.

He has no worries about leaving the school division, as he says it will be in good hands. Current superintendent of business, Lonny Darroch, will be moving into Kopera's position.

"Lonny is very capable," says Kopera, "and Randy [Fox] is an incredible director of education."

Darroch has been with Living Sky since 2006, working with Fox at the Biggar School Division before that.
