A Loon Lake man charged with several weapons-related offences was sentenced to 251 days in prison after pleading guilty to seven weapons-related offences.
Stephane Joseph Leclerc, 50, appeared via CCTV in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on April 2.
Leclerc and Jolene Nicole Sinclair, 35, were arrested Jan. 18 after Loon Lake RCMP received a complaint from Pierceland RCMP about a suspicious man driving a grey SUV in a farmyard. Police found the vehicle on Hwy 26 north of Loon Lake and tried to stop it but the driver sped away.
Police located the SUV at a gas station in Makwa a short time later and arrested Leclerc, who was driving. While an officer was taking Leclerc to a police truck, Sinclair, the passenger of the SUV, allegedly hit the officer from behind, grabbed a machete, got into the driver’s seat and tried to run him over while he was still on the ground. The officer was able to move himself to safety.
Sinclair tried turning the SUV around and again sped towards the RCMP officer but she lost control and plowed the SUV into the side of a gas station. The officer wasn’t injured in the incident.
Police searched the SUV and found three semi-automatic handguns and five loaded magazines. They also located bags of ammunition, a revolver, a machete, a black ski mask, leather gloves, knives and bolt cutters.
Sinclair was granted bail on Feb. 12 after a show-cause hearing. On March 26 she was scheduled to enter a plea and elect how she wanted to be tried but her case was adjourned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A warrant to hold was issued on March 26 and she is scheduled to appear in court on June 25.
