Lori Whitecalf back as chief after winning Sweetgrass vote

After sitting out the last two-year term, Lori Whitecalf is back as Chief of Sweetgrass First Nation.

Results of the Sweetgrass  band election were released Friday. Whitecalf was the clear winner with 284 votes, ahead of incumbent Chief Laurence Paskemin with 185 votes and Rod Atcheynum with 147.   

Whitecalf had previously been chief for six years, from 2011-17.

There were also six winners in the race for council, which saw 22 candidates stand for election. Elected were Hazen Paskimin with 356 votes, Trina Albert with 301, Isaac Thomas with 287, Janice Kennedy with 248, Omer White with 218 and Donovan Arcand with 180.
