North Battleford will be hosting a musical at North Battleford Comprehensive High School on Wednesday, Sept. 25 on human trafficking.
The production is called Love Bomb, produced by Shameless Hussy productions. The story focuses on a mother searching for her missing daughter.
According to the production’s website, it is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and also 7 p.m. on Sept. 25 at NBCHS. The evening presentation is directed at parents and other adults. A presentation is also scheduled for 9:10 a.m. Sept. 26.
The subject matter of the production has drawn interest from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Cpl. Sue Harvey of the RCMP has partnered with Shameless Hussy Productions on what is called “Operation Love Bomb – the Love Bomb Project.”
The idea behind the project is to bring the show to venues across western Canada with a view to helping combat sex exploitation and human trafficking.
The production has toured the South Peace region in fall 2016, the lower mainland of BC in spring 2017, the “highway of tears” area in fall 2017, at the Voices against Violence conference in Winter 2017, and across western Canada including Alberta and Saskatchewan in fall 2018. The current tour is scheduled for Saskatchewan, and four other provinces, and includes stops in St. Catharines, Brandon, Winnipeg, Regina, Spruce Grove and Abbotsford.
According to information from the RCMP about the project, the writer, Meghan Gardiner, had worked with police and Crown prosecutors to create the most realistic version of events as possible, and many of the circumstances of the play mirror what victims went through in the British Columbia case, R v. Moazami.
The idea is for law enforcement officials to use the play as a crime prevention tool to share and raise awareness of the issue. At the end of each show is an opportunity for a discussion/talk back session about the topics raised in the performance.
