The executive director of the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce has been nominated for a prestigious national award.

Linda Machniak has been nominated in the Executive of the Year category for a population base less than 100,000 people, with the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada.

Machniak has been executive director with the Battlefords chamber since September 2001 and recently received a 10-year service award from both the Chamber and from the CCEC.

Other CCEC award categories include Executive of the Year for population over 100,000, Staff Person of the Year and Council of Excellence.

Award recipients are to be announced at the organization's annual conference in Hamilton, Ont. It will be in conjunction with the national Chamber's annual general meeting and conference.

The Executive of the Year category goes to the chief staff person of a chamber of commerce or board of trade for outstanding performance. Submission items of interest include outstanding performance, membership growth, financial status, contribution to the chamber or board profession and their contributions specifically over the most recent fiscal year to the success of their chamber or board.

Nominations closed in the award categories by July 20th. Judging takes place in August with award recipients made known at the gala Awards Dinner on Friday, Sept. 21.

In a statement, Machniak said she is honoured to be nominated by her peers in the province.

"I was very honoured to know that my counterparts in other communities in the province see the work being done in the Battlefords and recognize its contribution to our community," said Machniak.

"Any measure of success I enjoy personally, is as a result of the commitment and leadership of the boards of directors and presidents over the years, the Chamber members, and the dedicated staff at the Chamber of Commerce," she added. "We enjoy working together, are proud of the work we do, and appreciate who we do it for."
