Man accused of unlawful confinement, weapons offences, appears in Meadow Lake court

Niles McCallum is accused of using a firearm to forcibly confine a man

MEADOW LAKE - An Ile a la Crosse man remains in custody after having an appearance in Meadow Lake Provincial Court Wednesday.

Niles McCalllum was arrested on Aug. 5 following a call to police about a complaint that a man went to a residence on Lajeunesse Avenue and was threatened by an armed man. The victim was eventually allowed to leave.

Ile a la Crosse RCMP charged 29-year-old McCallum with assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, using a firearm while committing an indictable offence of forcible confinement, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Kristina Ducharme, 36, was charged with four firearms related offences. Officers seized a modified firearm, ammunition, a machete, 10 smart phones, three tablets and a small amount of crystal methamphetamine from her. She was released from custody last week and appears in court again on Oct. 27.

McCallum was remanded in custody and appears next on Oct. 4.
