A Meadow Lake man was handed 360 days in prison for weapons offences.

John Robert Arnold, 27, was sentenced in Meadow Lake Provincial Court July 14. With credit for pretrial custody Arnold has 103 days left to serve.

Arnold, and Brendan Keith Bouvier, 30, were arrested Jan. 23. Police had stopped a car in the area where there was a report at about 5:30 a.m. that multiple gunshots had been fired at a residence on the 600 block of 3rd Street West in Meadow Lake. Police say they observed the occupants of a vehicle throw a loaded firearm out of the vehicle, which they located in a nearby snow bank.

Arnold and Bouvier were charged with numerous weapons-related offences including possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm with tampered serial number, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, careless use of a firearm, flight from police, two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, and failing to comply with an undertaking. Arnold was additionally charged with driving while prohibited.

On Wednesday, Arnold was sentenced on charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, being an occupant of a vehicle knowing there was a firearm, driving while prohibited, and breach of release conditions. He was also given a 10-year prohibition on owning firearms or weapons.

Bouvier was denied bail and remains in custody. His trial is set for Aug. 19 in Meadow Lake Provincial Court.
