The week didn't start off too well for the Marysburg Royals, but they made up for it when they got to home turf on Sunday.
The senior baseball team from Marysburg played the Stallions in Saskatoon on Wednesday. Mathew Strueby started on the mound and they jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
However, that was the last time the Royals would lead in this game.
The Stallions hit everything and the Royals made errors, which did not help the pitcher.
The Royals did have nine hits, but they did not get the hits when they had runners on.
"We made four errors and just did not play really well at all," reported Curtis Strueby of the Royals.
"The Stallions came to play and in the end, it showed as they beat us by a score of 12-4."
Curtis Strueby, Brent Puetz, and Braden Bauml led the way offensively with a pair of hits each.
The Royals then played the Saskatoon Dodgers in the rain in Marysburg on Sunday and were able to get the wins in.
In the first game, they defeated the Dodgers by a score of 13-0 with Dean Jaeb going the distance in the win.
Defence was sharp, not making any errors, and the bats were big again, belting out 12 hits, led by Brent Puetz, who had four, including a home run.
Cole Bauml also had a home run.
The second game saw the Royals win 11-1.
Brent Puetz got the win on the mound, and though the Marysburg defence made a couple of errors, Brent was able to work out of it.
The offence was solid again, with nine hits.
The Royals will play next on July 20 in Saskatoon, again against the Dodgers.
They then take on the Saskatoon Smoking Guns in what will be a showdown for first place in the Saskatoon Senior Baseball League (SSBL) in Marysburg on July 22 at 1 p.m.
"The next week will be a good indicator of where we will finish in the standings," said Strueby. "We are currently tied with the Guns for first and that doubleheader is going to be a huge one next Sunday. We must stay sharp as it is getting close to the Provincials weekend, which will be August long weekend in Yorkton."
