Matters for North Battleford break-and-enter accused back in court

NORTH BATTLEFORD - The individual accused in a rash of break and enters and thefts in North Battleford had his matters return to North Battleford Provincial Court Thursday

Eugene Bear, age 36, has had his matters adjourned to Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. in provincial court. He is remanded by consent to that date.

Bear faces eight counts of break and enter and commit theft. four counts of break and enter with the intent to commit theft and one count of breach of a release order. all Criminal Code violation. The charges cover a series of incidents stemming from April to October 2021 in the city. The targeted businesses suffered property damage as well as merchandise loss.

Defence lawyer Andrew Lyster appeared for Bear Thursday before Judge Brad Mitchell. Bear’s attendance was waived. The indication is that talks to resolve the case are underway. Lyster told the court a volume of disclosure had been received and that there had been and will be without-prejudice discussions with the Crown. 

Bear was arrested and charged in late November.
