Maymont connection to Quill Lake robbery

The town of Maymont ended up part of the narrative in an armed robbery that took place in a Quill Lake financial institution. According to the RCMP the robbery happened around 11:07 am Tuesday, Aug. 23 in Quill Lake.

According to the RCMP the robbery happened around 11:07 am Tuesday, Aug. 23 in Quill Lake. Police say a Wadena RCMP member made a patrol down to the location of the robbery but the male suspect had already fled the scene on foot.

Police soon found out that the suspect had fled in a pickup truck with a large quantity of cash taken. Police also say a firearm was reported to have been involved.

The suspect vehicle was noticed by an RCMP officer from Warman who was on patrol on Highway 16. The vehicle was eventually stopped near Maymont on Highway 16 where an adult male was taken into custody at the scene. He was then transported to Saskatoon.

Charged was 21-year-old Matthew James Halpape of Quill Lake. He was charged with one count each of robbery with firearm, disguised with intent to commit offence and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He appeared in court in Saskatoon Wednesday morning and police say he is awaiting a show cause hearing.

Assisting with the investigation was RCMP Police Dog Services out of North Battleford and Yorkton as well as detachment members from North Battleford and Warman. On the scene in Quill Lake are members from the RCMP's Forensic Identification Services from Tisdale.
