MEADOW LAKE — The City of Meadow Lake is officially taking proposals from residents to take over the old city hall building and repurpose it, as they have moved into their new location.

“Our former city hall was in need of some extensive upgrades in order to remain useable. With the construction of the new Co-op Centre, we had an opportunity to create a new building in an ideal location at a lesser cost than other options. The result is a modern, accessible city hall and council chambers,” said Neil Marsh, planning and development manager for Meadow Lake.

The new city hall is located at 506-3rd St. E., attached to the new multi-plex, which is named the Co-op Centre.

“This new multi-plex is a community hub and a natural gathering place for residents, so including city hall as part of the building is a natural fit,” said Marsh.

To ensure the old city hall building continues to be used the city of Meadow Lake is currently taking proposals from those interested in taking over the building.

Those on the Planning and Development Committee says it hope the building will be used in line with the goals of Meadow Lake.

“These goals are variously expressed in the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw, as well as the recently adopted Strategic Plan. In addition, residents were recently invited to express their hopes for the future use of the building. Council will review all proposals in alignment with these community goals to determine which, if any, proposals may be successful,” said Marsh.

“We would like to see a proposal to renovate the building for a use that is complementary to the downtown core area of the city, and that honours the building's historical character in some way,” continued Marsh.

For those interested in putting an idea forward Marsh urges them to look up this specific one on SaskTenders.ca with the competition number COML-2025-007-GG. All of the instructions are there.

Deadline for proposal submissions is Aug. 26 at 2 p.m.
