Mayor Ian Hamilton and City Manager Jim Toye were meeting this week with provincial Minister of Justice Gordon Wyant and Minister of Corrections and Public Safety Christine Tell in Regina.

Hamilton told reporters Monday those meetings were set to start Wednesday. Also planned were meetings with the newly-appointed inspector for the Battlefords RCMP detachment John Sutherland and superintendant Darcy Davidson.

"We want to convey to them the situation that exists in the city at this point in time," said Hamilton. "We want the ministers to know we need some help."

What it will look like, "we're not 100 per cent sure," Hamilton added.

Hamilton says they also plan to talk to their federal MP, Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, to see if they can get some dialogue going with the federal minister of justice as well.

Earlier at Monday's city council meeting, Toye confirmed the meetings were set in response to a question from Councillor Ryan Bater, who had made the original motion calling for a meeting of federal and provincial ministers be set up with the City on public safety.

Toye said individual meetings were set for Wednesday and that Thursday and Friday would see MLA Herb Cox join them.

Toye noted that getting a federal and provincial minister together might be tough right now because the parliament and legislature are in session, but did pledge that request would be made through Ritz's office
