MELFORT — Melfort Fire and Rescue responded to a deck fire on Stovel Ave. East that had been extinguished by the homeowner upon arrival.
“From what I understand, a lady was burning papers on her back deck and it was phoned in by a neighbour as a house fire,” said Shaun Stewart, Melfort’s fire chief. “By the time we were there it was all over and done with.”
The department responded on Dec. 13 at 12:27 a.m.
Stewart said the best way to prevent a deck fire, is not light fire to anything on your deck.
“Don’t light anything on your deck, use your fire pit.”
