A Melfort resident is celebrating a $100,000 lottery win.

Kerwin Edgington has won a free play from a previous LOTTO 6/49 draw, so when he got the ticket at the Rexall Drugs, he decided to add an extra dollar to get the EXTRA.

The winner discovered he won the Nov. 15 EXTRA draw when he returned the next week to check his old tickets and buy new ones.

Edgington first checked his tickets on the store’s self-serve ticket checker. He had to check the $100,000 winner twice to be sure he was reading it correctly. Then he asked the store clerk to confirm it.

“I gave the clerk some tickets with smaller prizes first,” he remembered. “Then I handed him this one and said, ‘This is the big one.’ He said, ‘I’ve heard that before,’ – but then he checked it and said, ‘You’re right!’”

“I started shaking. I could barely write my name on the ticket,” he said.

The winning EXTRA number on Nov. 15 was 3848935.

Edgington said he plans to save and invest his windfall, along with using some to make improvements to his home.
