MELFORT — Brent Lutz, Melfort’s director of development, planning and community relations, announced his resignation from the role during December’s council meeting, saying he got a job elsewhere.

“I’ve been given an opportunity and it’s an exciting opportunity,” Lutz said.

“I’m very passionate about the community, the future is very bright, there’s plenty of things on the horizon for the community and in many ways it’s kind of hard leaving knowing those opportunities are there – to see them all realized. Certainly the opportunity we’re taking that will remove us from the community is an opportunity to further my career and it’s a position with more responsibility and put the experience I’ve gained here to work.”

Lutz began his role with the city in 2010. His last day in office is Dec. 30. He said he isn’t at liberty to say as of yet where he will be working, but it is within the administration of another municipality.

Looking back, he said the biggest accomplishment he worked on over the last decade was the creation of the Melfort Wellness Centre.

“The enhancement of health services that kind of surrounded that which involved going from eight doctors to 14 doctors now practicing here, seeing the establishment of the heliport, and the CT scan… That was a major advancement for the community.”
