Mayor Ian Hamilton did the honours as the North Battleford Centennial Committee unveiled the resting place of the 100-year Time Capsule Tuesday.
Members of the Centennial committee including chair Tammy Donahue Buziak, as well as from City of North Battleford City Archives, and staff from Operations and Maintenance including director Stewart Schafer, were at the unveiling Tuesday morning.
The capsule is located on the same spot where a 25-year time capsule was opened on May 1 of last year, and is filled with items from North Battleford's 2013 centennial celebrations. It will not be opened until 2113.
The items collected over the past year were placed in the location in May of this year, and included such things as a 2013 toonie, a replica of the North Battleford water tower, as well as Saskatchewan Roughriders 2013 Grey Cup Champions shirt, among others. The items were on display last December at the Centennial wrap up event at the Dekker Centre.
The photos shown here will make up the final page of a scrapbook the Centennial committee has put together about the Centennial year.
In speaking to reporters, Mayor Hamilton said it was "so important that we continue to ensure that people understand what we are today by what we have been 100 years ago and what we will be 100 years hence. I think it's just an incredible thing that we honour our heritage and our future."
