The new mill rates are now in effect in North Battleford.

Third and final reading took place for the two bylaws that put in place the 3.9 per cent mill rate increase at Monday's council meeting. One was to establish the mill rate factors while the other was to authorize levying of the tax rate and establishing a minimum tax and base tax for 2012.

The vote was by a margin of 5-2 for both bylaws. As expected, Councillors Trent Houk and Brad Pattinson voted against.

The mill rate bylaws had been introduced at the last council meeting in March and got through two readings at that time. The passage of the mill rate followed on the heels of the adoption of the operations and capital budget by council in January.
