HUMBOLDT — At a time where businesses need support from local shoppers more than ever, the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce is aiming to make this year’s Moonlight Madness the best one yet.

Moonlight Madness, which always runs the week before Black Friday to kick-off the holiday shopping season, will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 19.

“These [businesses] support our community,” said Brent Fitzpatrick, the executive director of the chamber and the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District.

“These are literally our neighbors, family and friends. This year, more than any before in our history, they're under a lot of stress. This is the time where you get to pay back what they've done for you.”

He added that if locals decide to shop online or in Saskatoon on Black Friday instead, they shouldn’t expect local businesses to be in a position in the future to support local causes.

Activities planned for the evening include hot chocolate at the Humboldt and District Gallery, a store window decorating contest, the kickoff for the Festival of Wreaths, the for the Festival of Lights and – of course – late night shopping.

Crooner Graham Dyck will be singing at the Humboldt and District Museum.

“We're going to be broadcasting it out to everybody around,” Fitzpatrick said.

The Humboldt Journal will host a children’s colouring contest, while the two radio stations in the region will host their own promotions.

All events will adhere to provincial health guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all concerned.
