More charges for accused sex offender

A man accused of sexual assault and sexual interference involving a minor under 16 was back in North Battleford provincial court Tuesday to face a new information and new charges.

A man accused of sexual assault and sexual interference involving a minor under 16 was back in North Battleford provincial court Tuesday to face a new information and new charges.

David Smith now faces 11 additional charges on the new information filed before Judge Dan O'Hanlon, in addition to the two charges he still faces.

In total, the charges Smith faces include two for sexual assault and two for sexual touching of minors under 16, as well as two charges of indecent acts with intent to offend and once count of indecent exposure in front of a minor. Smith also faces five charges involving furnishing tobacco and alcohol to minors, as well as one count of unlawfully trafficking a controlled substance.

The charges involve activity alleged to have taken place from June 2009 to June 2010 in Battleford. Smith has been in custody since early last week.

The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, June 23 as Smith attempts to line up counsel. A publication ban under was issued to protect the identity of victims in the case.
