More donors have stepped forward to make funding commitments towards the Credit Union CU Plex.

The fundraising committee announced more financial commitments to the facility July 7. They include: $25,000 from Dr. Stacie Churchill, dentist, for a rock wall in the aquatics centre; $100,000 from Holm Svenkeson Raiche Chartered Accountants to sponsor one room in each building; $40,000 from Anderson Pump House Ltd. for an item in each building; and $50,000 from Ultra Print for a vestibule in the field house.

As well, a local challenge has been issued by businessman Derek Schmidt of Bill and Don's Men's Wear, who will shave his head if $10,000 is raised by Aug. 31.

Interested donors can make cheques payable to the Battlefords and District Community Foundation in connection to the challenge. Donations can be dropped off at Bee-Js Office Plus, and donors will receive tax deductible receipts.

The latest announcements follow on the heels of another commitment of major funds by Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs in the amount of $200,000. That commitment was announced at a media event this week.

The fundraising committee is also reminding citizens that updated fundraising figures are available online at their website www.raisetheroofbattlefords.com, which is now up and running.

According to the website, the committee has now raised $6.3 million towards their $10 million fundraising target to be met by the fall of 2010. The website also has information on how to donate and get involved.
