Rugged, muddy obstacle courses that push individuals' limits by means of physical exertion appear to be gaining popularity among many individuals who have either participated or witnessed the event. Central Saskatchewan residents will have an opportunity as Blaine Lake Community Association is hosting a Swamp Stomp Aug. 17 in Blaine Lake.
Over 200 pre-registered participants will have the opportunity to push their physical limits to overcome 15 challenging obstacles within a five-kilometre route, set up from Blaine Lake school grounds to the community golf course.
"Participants will be encouraged to pre-register as an individual or as a team," commented Bev Breland, one of the organizers. "It is an opportunity for people to have some fun and get some exercise."
Some of the obstacles include a hill slide into mud, zoom boom through the swamps at the local golf course, a mud crawl, tire obstacles and a wall climb.
Participants must identify if they or their team wish to enter the competitive or non-competitive class. Entries in the competitive categories will be permitted to run the course first.
Individuals and team members must be at least 16 years of age and pre-register by Aug. 10 to ensure their spot in the event. Each registered participant will receive a T-shirt, Running Room bag and barbecue lunch.
There are two ways to register, either online at www.runningroom.com under the event, "Saskatchewan, Blaine Lake 1st annual swamp stomp" or by stopping by the Blaine Lake town office at 301 Main Street.
