RCMP Major Crime Unit North have arrested and charged Nicholas Clifford Giroux, 36, with second degree murder.
Giroux appeared in court in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday afternoon and his case was adjourned to Oct. 4 at 9:30 am.
As well, RCMP Major Crime Unit North and North Battleford RCMP have released the name of the murder victim.
He is Thang Sian Mang, 20 years of age, of Saskatoon. Police say an autopsy was conducted Tuesday in Saskatoon.
The alledged stabbing took place Sept. 30 at around 4:11 a.m. at the Travelodge in North Battleford on 101st Street.
Police reported that on arrivalthere, a 35-year-old man was located in the lobby of the hotel with non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Battleford Union Hospital.The victim was located in a hotel room suffering from multiple stab wounds, and was taken to hospital by EMS where he was later pronounced dead.
Battlefords RCMP detachmentmembers,North Battleford Police Dog Services, Battleford General Investigation Section, Major Crimes Unit - North and Forensic Identification Services have assisted in the investigation. RCMP said Tuesday the investigation was still ongoing and that the crime scene is still being held, as investigators continue to gather and analyze evidence.
