Murder charges laid in 2001 slaying

The body of 33-year-old Alexander Ronald Sanderson was found April 18, 2001 on a grid road on the Mistawsis First Nation. Initial investigators determined Sanderson had been murdered.

A homicide investigation began, but no suspect was ever prosecuted.

In 2008, the Historical Case Unit from RCMP Major Crime North conducted re-interviews of several witnesses and re-examined the evidence. The investigation has now progressed to charges of second degree murder being laid against 31-year-old Curtis Daniel Nataucappo.

Nataucapp appeared in provincial court July 7 in Prince Albert. The matter has been adjourned until Aug. 17 at 10 a.m.in Prince Albert.
